This program is a part of the Legal Series from our PNY Core:
- November 8 – Legal Series - International Grantmaking
- March 6 – Legal Series - Self-Dealing (Family Foundations & Family Offices)
- May 23 – Legal Series - Making Grants to Individuals
Many private foundations and public charities have programs which provide grant support to individuals. The purpose of these grants can range from recognizing or enabling human achievement (such as through award programs or scholarships and fellowships) to disaster or hardship relief. However, structuring and administering programs to support individuals requires special attention to the legal rules.
Explore
- The tax law and regulatory requirements for individual grant programs
- The special rules for private foundation grants to individuals for travel, study, or other similar purposes, including obtaining IRS approval
- How to structure individual grant programs that are administered by public charities, including the rules for involving donors in the grant selection process
- The specific recordkeeping requirements for grants to individuals
We encourage legal counsel, grants managers, program officers, and executive directors of small foundations, among others, to join us for this session.
