Knowledge Management (KM) is often thought of as a neutral, operations-focused practice. But did you know that access to knowledge and, therefore, the ability to do your job, is often determined by outdated and sometimes inequitable practices? Learn how Knowledge Management and Power interact and how they can create or hinder equity in your organization.

Join us for an interactive workshop during which we will ground on shared definition(s) of KM, explore a knowledge lifecycle, and engage in an interactive activity that will illustrate the often invisible connections between knowledge management, power, and mission. KM tools and frameworks can not only help you get the job done, but address inequity as well. Presenters will share a few tools and further reading!

What will you learn?

  • How to identify inequity and equity along the knowledge lifecycle
  • How to be more aware of the relationship between your knowledge management practices, power, and your organization
    • As a decision-maker, explore how the power you hold affects your team and your bottom line
    • As a middle manager, learn some tools for making the strings that pull you in different directions visible to all of your stakeholders
    • As the person responsible for producing deliverables, discover a tool or two that can help you ask for what you need
