The past year has pushed us as a field to think differently, reimagine possibilities, and start to break the status quo. From exploring greater unrestricted funding and focusing on racial equity, to increasing payouts and streamlining reporting and application processes, philanthropy has shifted its modus operandi. However, the question remains: is this shift permanent?
On a structural level, the pandemic, continued police brutality, and racialized violence have shed light on deep systemic failure and given rise to (what we all hope to be) a powerful and sustained focus on racial equity. These events and more may also have impacted how you approach your role and work on an individual level. Through these sectoral, structural, and individual shifts, the need for community has never been stronger.
Please join us for our upcoming Food For Thought conversation to be in community with your fellow Philanthropy New York members to discuss how the events of 2020 are impacting your institutions, individual roles, and the structures in which you work.
This conversation will serve as an open, unstructured space for colleagues to share how they are thinking through these changes and what comes next as a new normal begins to take shape. We will also discuss what pressing questions need to be answered and discussed during our upcoming Food For Thought meetings.
This program is a Food for Thought conversation hosted by the Committee for Equitable and Inclusive Philanthropy for PNY members to discuss “equity” as a tool to buttress their philanthropic practice and as a lens through which to understand current events. Rather than follow a set agenda, the conversation will be a forum for members to engage in informal, interactive discussion exploring issues of equity and inclusion by analyzing and discussing recent articles, research, editorials, and other media.
