Each year, Philanthropy New York partners with the Council on Foundations and the Forum of Regional Associations of Grantmakers for the annual Grantmakers Salary and Benefits Survey. This survey collects data on compensation and benefits costs among community, private, and public foundations. PNY members receive member-only access to New York City metro area data.
The 2014 survey is now open. The deadline is August 1, 2014.
How to Participate
Community, private, public, and operating foundations are eligible for participation. Each organization must designate a survey contact person. Email the Council’s Research Department at research@cof.org with the survey contact’s name, title, and phone number and your organization’s name, type, and address. Once an account has been established, the survey contact will receive his or her personal login information and a link to the survey.
Compensation Tables for the New York City Metro Area
We hope to have as many PNY members participate as possible to produce a valuable benchmarking tool for all of you. PNY will use the Council’s online benchmarking tool to generate a customized report for our members on compensation at foundations in the New York City metro area. In addition, all online survey respondents will receive:
- A PDF copy of the 2014 Salary Tables, which includes compensation summaries for 35 positions by foundation type, region, and asset class
- Access to online benchmarking, including customized reports on a choice of peer groups
- A PDF copy of the full 2014 report
To view the 2013 compensation tables for the NYC metro area, visit our resource bank. If you have not yet logged in to our new website, you will need to set a password and activate your account. For any questions about the New York City report, please contact Kristen Ruff, Senior Director, Member Services, at kruff@philanthropynewyork.org.
Changes to the 2014 Survey
The survey itself has been retooled and streamlined for a more user-friendly experience. The survey now includes a 35th position of Legal Counsel and will be soliciting information on board compensation and consultant services. Finally, the survey will provide more detailed information and data for the largest foundations, with the inclusion of asset classes for $1 to 1.999 billion and $2 billion and over whenever possible.
Survey Policies: The Council continues to conduct this survey in partnership with the Foundation Center and your primary contact will be a Foundation Center staff person who will answer questions about the survey and user accounts. The Grantmakers Salary and Benefits Survey remains an initiative of the Council, and the data confidentiality and usage policies are unchanged. For any questions about survey policies, please contact research@cof.org.
