There is no way to get to the other side of conflict than to move through it.
Like a caterpillar's metamorphosis into a butterfly, conflict can be deeply transformative for people and organizations. However, this prospect can feel very daunting. In our current socio-political climate, every difference of opinion can feel like a fight for our lives. When it feels like so much is at stake, how can we navigate these challenging moments while maintaining a culture of civility and a commitment to shared goals?
When conflict arises, do you feel equipped to address it while staying true to your values and commitments? How do you navigate moments when differing perspectives threaten to derail progress toward shared goals?
Today is about asking yourself, "What does it actually look like to live those values when it’s hard?" Especially:
o When there is disagreement
o When harm happens in real time
o When power dynamics are present
o When the stakes feel high
What will you learn?
Participants will:
- Build skills in navigating difficult conversations
- Practice disrupting harm in real-time using restorative and reparative approaches
- Build the muscle to stay in uncomfortable conversations in order to build a stronger community
Who should attend?
All interested funders, regardless of roles, including CEOs and Senior Leadership; Measurement, Evaluation, and Learning teams; Grantmaking team members; Program teams; and Strategy teams.
What to expect: Led by a conflict expert and consultant within organizational and educational environments, this workshop will build upon core principles from the Understanding Based Model (Center for Understanding in Conflict) and the Non-Violent Communication Model (NVC) by Marshall Rosenberg. This session will introduce tools for addressing conflicts in our work through a combination of presentation, small group work, and the opportunity to practice skills with your peers.
