Inequity stifles creativity, and creativity is necessary to address inequity.
- Carolyn Peters, Philanthropy New York

Are you looking to sharpen your editorial skills and create compelling language that amplifies your voice, vision, and influence within your philanthropic practice or the field as a whole?

And/Or, are you seeking ways to think expansively and integrate a creative mindset and practices to spark deeper change and connection on an individual, organizational, or community level?

We’re thrilled to partner with author Dara Joyce Lurie to offer a dynamic skills-building workshop in Liberatory Storytelling that will introduce you to mindsets and practices of personal and creative liberation to nurture the wellspring of creative expression that we each possess. This workshop fosters a safe space for dreaming, exploration, and speculative inquiry, empowering you to unlock the storyteller within and nurture original, innovative thinking.

Drawing on her dual training as a writer and dancer, our facilitator has developed a unique approach to writing as an embodied practice that is meant to combine and synthesize the power of somatic (body) experience within the written and spoken word. Her book, Great Space of Desire: Writing for Personal Evolution, is a memoir and creative guide for writers who wish to tell their own stories.

Designed For

Philanthropy New York members who identify as changemakers, no matter their role or tenure. Whether you’re developing an editorial piece or seeking new ways to activate your creativity for change, we invite you to join us.

What will you learn?

By the end of the workshop, you will be able to:

  • Write freely, without self-judgment, and share your work without shame
  • Infuse joy and energy into your language
  • Embrace ambiguity with comfort
  • Protect and hold space for creative discovery
  • Experience writing as an embodied practice, not just an intellectual exercise
  • Lean into your curiosity, fears, joys, and sorrows as sources of inspiration

We invite you to join us as we practice liberation through storytelling that explores our sources of connection, vulnerability, and play.
