There has been a surge of antisemitism globally over the last decade, and especially over the last two years in the aftermath of October 7th, 2023. This reality has had profound impact on the Jewish community and our movements, from antisemitism inside our spaces to the weaponization of antisemitism by those seeking to divide us.
This program will explore the interconnected nature of the fight for democracy and against antisemitism, including inside movements for progress, and how we move beyond binary thinking to create space for empathy. Our panel will explore Jewish idenity in a holistic way, what antisemitism is and how it works, and the edges of this discourse that are the most complex, including the varied understandings of Zionism and anti-Zionism in an effort to help us repair, rebuild, and resist authoritarianism at home.
What will I learn?
Session participants will be able to:
- Understand the interconnected nature of the fight for democracy and against antisemitism and what that means for our shared fights
- Understand Jewish identity, including the relationship between Jews and whiteness and the Jewish people’s relationship to Israel (people, land, and state)
- Explore the ways we understand the terms Zionism and Anti-Zionism and how those words are being used by some to flatten and divide
- Move beyond the binary and create space for empathy in order to repair, rebuild, and resist authoritarianism at home
