Funders and government increasingly require quantitative data to demonstrate the success of program investments. Community-based nonprofits offering a mix of services – housing, education, employment, health and social services - to disrupt multi-generational poverty often report to numerous donors, each requiring its own data base to track outcomes. How can data be used more effectively to demonstrate whether they are making a difference?

Silo-ed programs may work at cross purposes unless outcomes are aligned. How is data being used by government to work across agencies and ensure that services are optimized to improve outcomes in high-poverty neighborhoods?

Join us for a conversation about how community organizations, evaluators, and government agencies are rethinking how they use data to evaluate and track outcomes in high-poverty neighborhoods.

Explore
  • The idea that integrated programming is needed to change outcomes for low income people in high-poverty neighborhoods and that cross-program data analysis is needed to know if integrated programming is successful.
  • CBOs can use data to hold program partners accountable and improve the efforts of their organizations and partner organizations via collaboration and collective impact/Promise models.
  • A challenge for CBOs is that they are not often resourced to play this coordinating role or to operate at scale even for proven interventions.
  • Donors shouldn’t impose proprietary databases for program –specific grants; rather, should ask for metrics about how program data feeds into the overarching goals of the grantee and donor.
  • The new direction for both government and cbos is to work across disciplines and rely on program data to improve program interventions and outcomes.

This forum is co-sponsored by Change Capital Fund, a collaboration of 15 foundations and corporate donors that is investing in five community development organizations to develop and integrate programming to increase economic mobility while building capacity to track outcomes across programs and partners.
