In recent meetings of the International Grantmakers Network, a recurring theme has been the different challenges faced by small-and mid-sized foundations in grantmaking compared to larger foundations that have more staff and resources to conduct due-diligence and build relationships. To better understand the common challenges faced by smaller foundations committed to international progress, Philanthropy New York is organizing an initial meeting of such foundations to share ideas and identify the best way to support such organizing in the future.
The organizers of this gathering also welcome staff of large foundations with relatively small international grantmaking budgets and any other funders interested in sharing experiences and challenges of international grantmaking with relatively small budgets (under $5 million).
This meeting will not have a panel discussion or a formal agenda. Rather, it will begin with a set of questions that participants will contribute to forming and will answer together at the meeting.
Explore
- What are some of the resources available to smaller foundations – guidelines, consultants, lawyers, associations and case studies – that can help make international grantmaking easier
- How can smaller international grantmakers share information about their work to support common goals?
- What are the intermediaries that can be most helpful for different geographies and different programmatic areas?
- What can smaller foundations to monitor and support international grantees on a regular basis?
