WSJ Seeks PNY Comment on Geffen $100 Million Gift to Lincoln Center
Entertainment mogul David Geffen has won naming rights for one of the premier venues in classical music with a $100 million gift toward the renovation of Avery Fisher Hall at Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts.
The concert hall, home to the New York Philharmonic, is slated for a major overhaul expected to cost about $500 million. Construction is set to begin in 2019, but the venue will be renamed David Geffen Hall in September.
Mr. Geffen’s $100 million gift is likely be a beacon for other high-profile donors, said Michael Hamill Remaley, senior vice president of Philanthropy New York, an association of grantmakers....
