Community organizations are under immense pressure—responding to threats against hard-won rights, filling gaps left by federal funding cuts, and protecting the well-being of the communities they serve. This defensive posture is necessary. But it’s not enough. If we want movements to win, we must invest in the conditions that allow organizers to stay in the work, lead effectively, and secure lasting change.

This virtual briefing will introduce Compensation and Beyond: Enhancing Support for Community Organizers in New York City, a new report by All Due Respect with support from the New York Foundation, Robert Sterling Clark Foundation, and NYC Capacity-Building Collaborative. The guide provides vital data and practical insights on the realities facing NYC organizers—what they’re paid, why it’s not enough, and what funders can do to help stabilize and sustain the people powering grassroots change.

Join us to explore what it means to shift from short-term crisis response to long-term investment in community leadership.

What will I learn?

  • The concrete challenges NYC organizers face in making this work sustainable
  • How actionable compensation data and staffing insights can guide better grantmaking
  • What steps funders can take now to build long-term movement infrastructure
  • How stronger, more coordinated philanthropy can prevent burnout and turnover across the sector
