The next virtual convening of the NYC Workforce Funders network will examine the state of the clean energy economy, projections for “green” jobs, and strategies for expanding on-ramps to clean energy careers with leaders from The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA). As part of its efforts to advance clean energy innovation and investments to combat climate change, NYSERDA conducts ongoing analysis of the clean energy labor market and supports myriad workforce development and training initiatives.
Following an overview of local labor market projections for the clean energy sector, a panel of leaders from NYSERDA’s workforce division will discuss the Authority’s career pathway investments. A panel of NYSERDA partners will then discuss the formation of the New York Community Colleges Energy Equity (NYCCEE) Consortium, a statewide skills training and jobs on-ramp for New Yorkers who have been left out of the energy transition. The NYCCEE consortium—made up of 24 CUNY/SUNY community colleges, employers, community organizations, labor unions, faith leaders, environmental justice advocates and state and local government agencies—will combine clean energy sector training in building electrification, offshore wind, solar, and advanced manufacturing with support services, apprenticeships and job placements for underserved communities and dislocated workers.
Workforce development funders and stakeholders will gain a better understanding of the numbers and types of clean energy jobs NYSERDA researchers project for New York City and New York State in the coming years, and the skills training and other on-ramps that will be needed to meet both labor market demand and equity goals.
