Last week, we collectively and viscerally witnessed the cruelty and violence that black migrants have been experiencing at the U.S.- Mexico border and across the region for decades. As urgent humanitarian efforts are underway to support Haitian and other asylum seekers in Texas by frontline leaders, it is clear that the deterrence first policy is morally repugnant and failing.
Under the leadership of Haitian and other Black migrant justice leaders, this event will explore how philanthropy can center their calls to action not only in this urgent moment, but for the long term. As the sector aspires to racial justice, this is an opportunity for philanthropy to show its support.
In this crucial moment, we must center black migrant voices and power for migrant and racial justice. For decades, Black migrant leaders have built resilient organizations to support their communities and create opportunities for leadership and capacity-building. We must look to them now on how to best uplift their efforts and advance power building strategies for migrant and racial justice.
