Philanthropy New York's Health Working Group has been convening virtually to discuss the philanthropic response to COVID-19 in the field. The Working Group includes a diverse array of funders focused on all sorts of interventions, direct service support, research, policy work and more.

Supportive housing provides vulnerable, formerly homeless New Yorkers – many of whom struggle with physical and psychiatric disabilities - with a dignified place to live and access to quality services and health care on site. New York’s vibrant, growing community of supportive housing providers, and the residents who rely on them, are facing unprecedented challenges in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic.

After overcoming struggles resulting from mental illness, trauma and abuse, addiction and chronic disease, supportive housing residents are particularly at risk if they become infected with the Coronavirus. Meanwhile, the providers who develop supportive housing, operate the residences, and provide the services are facing the collapse of funding lines and a looming fiscal crisis for City and State Government, which provide the lion share of their annual revenues.

Supportive housing providers and their advocates have acted quickly in the face of the pandemic, but they are struggling, among other challenges, to get access to a steady supply of PPE and testing that will help them to protect their residents and their staffs as the COVID-19 epidemic drags on.

The Health Funders Work Group of Philanthropy New York invites you to join a virtual discussion with two leaders of the Supportive Housing Community in New York City and New York State.
