Over the last century, The Rockefeller Foundation has seen the incredible power of convening to create shared dialogue and debate opportunities to impact and catalyze groundbreaking ideas. Learning from the past, the Foundation and its partners at Monitor Institute saw a critical and unmet need to document the skills, training, and competencies that go into a successful convening. Last year, they published “Gather: The Art and Science of Effective Convening”—a unique guide to convening planners and change agents interested in harnessing the potential of collective intelligence through in-person convening.
This report is what inspired Philanthropy New York to organize this two-part series. As a convener of philanthropic professionals we know all too well that there is an art and science to an effective convening. Join us for the first of two programs to hear from two grantmaking professionals on the “art of effective convening” and the contemplation that goes into deciding whether convening is the best option.
The second program, on October 29th, will discuss the “science of effective convening” through an interactive workshop led by Anna Pond. Stay tuned for more information!
