Aisha Moodie-Mills Joins Brooklyn Community Foundation’s Board of Directors
October 16, 2019 – Brooklyn Community Foundation is pleased to announce the addition of Aisha Moodie-Mills to its Board of Directors, effective Friday, September 27, 2019. Moodie-Mills is a political strategist, CNN commentator, and social impact advisor. After spending over 20 years in working in D.C. politics and advocacy, she moved to Brooklyn with her wife Danielle last year.
“I am excited to join the Board at such a consequential time in our country and our community,” said Ms. Moodie-Mills. “I’ve spent over two decades working in national politics and policy, and know firsthand that social change doesn’t simply trickle down, it must be sparked from the ground up. The Foundation is a powerful catalyst for community change and I am honored to be of service.”
Previously, Ms. Moodie-Mills was the first African American woman to lead a national LGBTQ organization in her role as President and CEO of the LGBTQ Victory Fund and Institute. She has also served as a senior fellow at the Center for American Progress, executive director of the Congressional Black Caucus PAC, regional finance director at the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, and fundraiser to several Congressional candidates.
“The Foundation is fortunate to both welcome Aisha to Brooklyn and to our Board of Directors,” said Brooklyn Community Foundation Chairman Alan Fishman. “She is a fearless advocate and a skilled leader, with impressive experience in bringing about policy change and tackling injustice in our nation's capital. Now that she calls Brooklyn home, her strategic insight and thoughtful voice will be terrific additions to our executive leadership team as we continue to grow the Foundation's impact in Brooklyn and beyond.”
A nationally respected voice on progressive policy and politics, Ms. Moodie-Mills has been recognized as one of the “Out 100” LGBTQ influencers, "The Root 100" top African American influencers, and a top "40 Under Forty" leader by The Advocate Magazine.
Launched in 2009 as the first and still only foundation for New York City’s largest borough, Brooklyn Community Foundation mobilizes people, capital, and expertise to achieve its vision of a fair and just Brooklyn.
