Gary Stehr Appointed Altman Foundation Chief Financial Officer
The Altman Foundation announces that Gary Stehr has been appointed Chief Financial Officer as of November 1, 2018. Mr. Stehr will oversee the Foundation's finance and accounting functions, and support the Foundation's trustees' management of endowment investments. Mr. Stehr has worked as Controller at the Foundation since 2012.
Prior to joining Altman, he worked as Controller at the Steinhart Foundation and the Commonwealth Fund and was chief accounting officer at Yeshiva University. He also served as Senior Accounting Manager at Deloitte & Touche LLP where for ten years he specialized in managing financial statements and audits in the tax exempt area. He has been a frequent speaker at numerous seminars and authored several articles in Deloitte & Touche LLP Not for Profit Review. Mr. Stehr received a BS in accounting and MBA in Finance from the State University of New York at Binghamton. He is a CPA and a member of the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants and is a member of the Audit committee of Philanthropy New York. In addition, he is Treasurer of the East Rockaway Fire Department and has been a volunteer firefighter and paramedic for the East Rockaway Fire Department for the past 35 years.
