We invite you to join Community Food Funders, farmers, community leaders and food systems experts for the second discussion in a three-part breakfast series. In the hours and days immediately following Superstorm Sandy, vulnerable residents turned to community-based organizations for help. While government agencies have begun rebuilding, there are still significant barriers for the most marginalized communities in accessing available resources. For many in the Rockaways, on Staten Island and in Red Hook, life has not yet returned to normal. Disparities in access to good food have only been heightened as a result of Sandy.
In this session, we will hear from community leaders and organizers who were on the front lines after Sandy. The conversation will focus on their stories and ideas to ensure that the communities who are most affected have the resources they need to respond to and recover from natural disasters.
A Philanthropy New York Collaborative Program, co-presented by the Community Food Funders, Jessie Smith Noyes Foundation, North Star Fund and Surdna Foundation.
