While funders tend to think of our organizations as highly ethical, organizationally conservative and unlikely to face public controversy, foundation crises do frequently arise.  How often do we read news about situations like these?

  • A foundation CEO has a falling out with the board and the vague “resignation” announcement leaves grantees wondering and the media asking inopportune questions.
  • A foundation committed to being a nonpartisan information provider is caught in the political cross-hairs when its work is claimed by one side of a charged issue.
  • A foundation employee inadvertently states highly personal, inappropriate views through the foundation’s social media, and those views are reported as those of the foundation.

It happens. Foundations find themselves in crisis, and it could happen to you. The question is: Will you be ready?

As crisis management expert Davia Temin will show us, a defensive reaction is the wrong place for a foundation to start.

This is an area in which foundations absolutely should act more like businesses – by developing potential scenarios and developing a reality-based crisis simulation to prepare their organization.  In this highly-interactive, hands-on program, Temin will help Philanthropy New York members begin to do just that.

Explore

  • How to think about the unthinkable in foundation crisis communications.
  • The philosophical underpinnings of a crisis plan that positively defines your organization in the public mind.
  • The beginning steps for developing a substantive plan for your organization when it faces its own crisis.
