Katya Levitan-Reiner Promoted to Chief Operating Officer at Propel Capital

NEW YORK CITY - Today Propel Capital announced that Katya Levitan-Reiner will take on the newly created role of Chief Operating Officer. Levitan-Reiner joined Propel Capital in 2015, playing a critical role in expanding Propel’s innovative approach to tackling some of today’s most challenging issues. Levitan-Reiner most recently held the role of Portfolio Director since 2017. In the COO position, Levitan-Reiner will primarily manage Propel’s investment portfolio and operations while working closely with CEO Sarah M. Williams to expand Propel’s innovative approach and strategic impact investing model.

“As Propel reflects on its last ten years and prepares for the next chapter, it is important that we have the leadership in place ready to meet the challenge and opportunity of the moment. Katya’s contributions to strengthening our financial and impact reporting as well as skill and dedication coaching entrepreneurs across our portfolio have been invaluable, and this new role provides even more room to advance our core mission” said Ms. Williams, CEO and co-founder of Propel Capital. “As our COO, Katya will be a thought partner to me and dozens of other leaders working hard to turn investments into interventions that level the playing field in education, economy, and our democracy as a whole.”

Founded in 2008, Propel Capital invests in innovative enterprises working to create an economy and democracy that work for all. Over the course of ten years, Propel Capital has deployed close to $50 million in capital to ventures working across the social impact spectrum through three portfolios: Propel Democracy, Propel Opportunity, and Propel Justice.

“I am excited to be taking on the new challenges and opportunities presented as COO at Propel,” Levitan-Reiner said. “For me, Propel stands out as a leading example among impact investors with its deep commitment to impact and equity. The mission and values are imbued in every element of our work here, and I am proud of our ongoing commitment to build a more just society.”

Jeremy Mindich, co-founder of Propel Capital, said, “Katya has been a critical and valued addition to the Propel team. We have benefited greatly from Katya’s experience in the non-profit, public and private sectors, and we are excited to have this expertise brought to the new role.”

Levitan-Reiner has a long history of developing high impact strategies for both non-profit and for-profit organizations, leading a consulting practice prior to joining Propel that worked with foundations, non-profit organizations and school systems developing and implementing strategies to improve teacher effectiveness and student outcomes. Levitan-Reiner previously worked with Fortune 500 companies as part of the Human Capital practice at Deloitte, providing strategy and implementation support for national talent and organizational design initiatives. A former Coro Fellow in Public Affairs and a Broad Resident in Urban Education, Levitan-Reiner holds an MBA from the Yale School of Management and a BA in mathematics from Smith College, and spent 7 years as an educator in K-12 school systems.
