Joining Forces for Equity

Philanthropy New York along with the Connecticut Council for PhilanthropyGrantmakers for Effective OrganizationsMaryland Philanthropy Network, Northern California GrantmakersPEAK Grantmaking, and Philanthropy Northwest have joined forces to advance the learning and practice of equitable evaluation among our members. The joint effort, named Associations Advancing Equitable Evaluation Practices (“AAEEP”), will support the important equity-focused work to which many of our members are already committed by providing learning opportunities, resources and, eventually curricula, about equitable evaluation.

Equitable evaluation seeks to help mission driven organizations naming equity or racial equity as their strategic end to use every asset, including evaluation, in service of that aim. Equitable evaluation promotes the design and implementation of culturally competent and multiculturally valid evaluative work by orienting the process toward participant partnership and expanding the analysis beyond metrics to answer critical questions about the impact of a strategy on different populations; how that strategy addresses systemic sources of inequity; and how history and cultural context affect that strategy and existing inequities.

AAEEP will be a field partner in the Equitable Evaluation Initiative. As such, we will introduce our members to the latest research and information about equitable evaluation drawing upon the content and projects produced by the Equitable Evaluation Initiative and its partners. Our shared commitment and collaboration will advance equitable evaluation by: (i) building the field of practitioners, consumers, and adopters of equitable evaluation, and (ii) strengthening ties and fostering cooperation among funders around defining success, measuring impact, and addressing inequity. AAEEP will host its first joint program on September 18, 2:00 pm (Eastern). Additional details will follow.

AAEEP welcomes other philanthropy serving organizations to join us in our effort to better support mission driven organizations naming equity or racial equity as their strategic end. If you would like additional information, please contact Jo Christine Miles atjmiles@philanthropynewyork.org.
