This program is hosted by our partner, The Funders Network, who has extended an invitation to PNY members.
The Funders Network invites you to the next session of Reel Change: A TFN Virtual Film Series, which showcases documentaries and short films that lift up issues our communities are grappling with — and resilient leaders at the forefront of positive change.
Join us March 18 at 2 p.m. ET for a viewing and moderated follow-up conversation of the 2024 documentary, Slumlord Millionaire.
This documentary — directed by Steph Ching and Ellen Martinez — exposes housing injustice in NYC, following the David-and-Goliath battles between ordinary renters and powerful developers.
Through stories from neighborhoods across the boroughs, the film reveals the harsh realities of unsafe housing, unethical landlords and an overwhelmed housing court system. It also uncovers a troubling pattern of desirably located properties being seized for luxury developments in low-income neighborhoods, often with the system’s complicity.
Slumlord Millionaire is both empowering and sobering, highlighting grassroots activism in the fight against relentless gentrification.
Following a screening, we will be joined by the film's director, Ellen Martinez; teenage housing activist, Samantha Bravo Huertero; and Brooklyn resident Janina Davis for a Q&A session moderated by Adam M. Gordon, Esq, executive director of Fair Share Housing.
