The Foundation Administrators Network (FAN) brings together HR and operations professionals to share knowledge and resources, to test complex ideas with peers about administrative issues related to managing a foundation, and to strengthen professional skills and expertise.
 
Do you take routine work phone calls after 10pm?  Have you ever felt compelled to answer a non-urgent email in the middle of the night?  Does work-life balance within your organizational culture skew too much toward work, with too little left for life?
 
The dizzying volume and pace of work at our organizations can lead us to prioritize by default: whatever seems most urgent gets our attention, whether or not it truly is.  But this way of working means that we may not be putting our time, energy and attention where it matters most. Furthermore, habitual urgency can cause unneeded stress, strain working relationships, affect the quality of our work, and take a toll on our personal – and professional - lives.  
 
At this interactive and limited-attendance session, you’ll leave with ideas about tools and practical strategies for improving how you manage urgency in your own work life, and how to address these issues within your team and your organizational culture. (Bring your own “worst” examples for possible sharing with the group!)
