The 2016 presidential election was followed by an outpouring of emotions.  The unexpected result revealed how unprepared we were to hold space for our colleagues and grantees or respond to the challenges of a new administration that would quickly pursue policies that conflicted with many foundation strategies and values. With the next presidential election less than a month away, we find ourselves living through chaotic times.  Our President has repeatedly threatened not to accept election results and has suggested that there may not be a peaceful transition of power.  Regardless of the immediate or longer term outcome this election, many are expecting anger, unrest and social division in the days and weeks that follow.

As we approach the election, now is the time to examine your role, your sphere of influence, and the capacity you have to prepare yourself and those you work with for the inevitable emotional upheaval.

Join us for a special Food for Thought brown bag discussion to explore how you can build both internal and external practices to support staff, grantees and yourself.

This program is a Food for Thought conversation hosted by the Committee for Equitable and Inclusive Philanthropy for PNY members to discuss “equity” as a tool to buttress their philanthropic practice and as a lens through which to understand current events. Rather than follow a set agenda, the conversation will be a forum for members to engage in informal, interactive discussion exploring issues of equity and inclusion by analyzing and discussing recent articles, research, editorials, and other media.
