The NYC Charter serves as the city's constitution, outlining the powers and structure of its government. In this November’s general election, a set of key amendments to the charter will be on the ballot, for the voters of New York City to decide. These amendments were proposed by a Charter Revision Commission after a series of public hearings. The Commission voted to put five questions on the ballot this November: four related to housing and land use, and one related to moving City elections to even-numbered years.
During this session, we will discuss the charter reform process and how it has become a point of contention between the mayor and the city council. Additionally, we will dive into the proposed reforms for the November ballot: their potential impact on housing development and supply in the city, as well as on democracy and increasing voter turnout.
Please join us to learn more about these key amendments, their potential impact, and how you can shape the future of NYC governance and elections.
