On behalf of the NY Small Business Funders Collective (SBFC), Asset Funders Network, and Philanthropy New York, we would like to invite you to join us at Philanthropy New York (320 East 43rd Street) on Wednesday, January 25th at 10 am for an intimate funders briefing geared towards corporate, workforce, and likeminded economic justice grantmakers. The event will be followed by the Grant Award Reception that is a culmination of a three-year collaborative effort to support BIPOC small businesses in NYC’s five boroughs.

Join leaders at JPMorgan Chase, M&T, Principal Foundation, Santander, and the Surdna Foundation to learn about their journey to create the City’s first pooled fund for small business. Whether you are a long-time funder of small businesses or newly committed to institutional racial equity goals, we welcome you to come and learn more about investing in a more inclusive economy to drive wealth-generation opportunities for more New Yorkers.

What will you learn?

  • The successes and challenges faced by a number of large institutions coming together for a collaborative effort committed to being iterative, community-centered, and nimble
  • How the NY SBFC aimed to create opportunities for Black, Latinx, API, and Indigenous entrepreneurs to help close the racial wealth gap
  • A model for setting grantmaking strategy that borrows from participatory models
  • How to partner with nonprofit intermediaries to support the needs of area business owners
