While the number of out-of-school, out-of-work young adults in New York City has declined over the past few years, the unemployment rate for this population remain significantly higher than other groups, and they continue to have much lower incomes. The City of New York did not address specifically the needs of out-of-school, out-of-work young adults in the Career Pathways report and has not allocated significant tax levy funding for this population since the report was released in 2014. The significant growth of private funding for workforce development has contributed to New York City’s leadership nationally in the young adult workforce field. This meeting will feature analyses and recommendations from an update on JobsFirstNYC’s Barriers to Entry report and a panel of leading practitioners on the most effective workforce strategies for out-of-school, out-of-work young adults in this low unemployment labor market.
