Join us for a wine-and-cheese reception, followed by a screening of the documentary Freedom Summer and a brief panel discussion.
Emmy Award-winning director Stanley Nelson examines an often overlooked but essential chapter in the Civil Rights Movement: the 1964 interracial Freedom Summer campaign, where hundreds of volunteers faced death threats and intimidation to register African-American voters in a heavily segregated Mississippi. Weaving together stunning archival footage and first-hand testimonials of key players during the movement, this film is a timely reflection on the fight for voting rights and the courageous people who stood up for equality.
