This program is the launch of a Capacity Building series for 2017.
All funders want the organizations they support to have the infrastructure and capacities necessary to deliver on their respective missions. Indeed, according to a recently published study by Grantmakers for Effective Organizations (GEO), a majority of staffed foundations provide capacity-building support of some kind. As funders and nonprofits consider the impact of the election on their work, many PNY members are trying to determine what nonprofit sustainability will look like over the next four years and how they can be most supportive to grantees.
Join us for this kick-off program in a series of Philanthropy New York programs on capacity building. We will explore the range of approaches to capacity-building support - from the perspective of grantees. We will discuss why and how funders make capacity-building investments and similarly, how grantees experience investments. GEO's Heather Peeler will frame the conversation and offer insights from their recent guide, Strengthening Nonprofit Capacity. We’ll hear from nonprofit executives about their experiences with a capacity building models—from general operating support to targeted capacity building investments and technical assistance to field building.
Whether your foundation is just beginning to consider capacity building investments or you’re eager to reflect on many years of capacity-building work and share lessons learned with peers, we hope you’ll join us for this peer-to-peer exchange.
