In the wake of the Haitian earthquake, the New York State Health Foundation (NYSHealth) worked to find a way to help victims of the disaster—and at the same time follow its mission to improve the health of New Yorkers. The end result is a story of organizational flexibility, staff initiative, and partnership between institutions—all in the service of helping the Haitian people. James R. Knickman, the President and CEO of NYSHealth, shares the lessons he learned during this experience with us.
