Burroughs Wellcome Fund And Charles H. Revson Foundation Establish Partnership To Support Minority Scientists
RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, NC, 18 September 2023 — The Burroughs Wellcome Fund and the Charles H. Revson Foundation are proud to announce a collaboration aimed at fostering diversity and inclusion in the scientific research community. This partnership supports minority scientists’ advancement and enhances their contributions to various fields of research. Through BWF’s Postdoctoral Diversity Enrichment Program (PDEP), the Charles H. Revson Foundation will fund up to five additional fellowships to postdoctoral researchers at institutions located within the New York Metro area.
Recognizing the importance of diverse perspectives and experiences in driving scientific progress, the Burroughs Wellcome Fund and the Charles H. Revson Foundation are partnering to expand this funding initiative. Through this joint effort, both organizations will continue to champion and invest in the talents of underrepresented scientists.
Dr. Louis J. Muglia, president and CEO of the Burroughs Wellcome Fund, expressed his enthusiasm about this collaboration, stating, “We are thrilled to join forces with the Charles H. Revson Foundation in our shared commitment to fostering diversity and equity in science. By actively supporting minority scientists, we aim to support a scientific community that reflects the rich tapestry of our society and ensures innovative breakthroughs in research.”
Founded in 1976, The Charles H. Revson Foundation reflects the values of its benefactor, Charles H. Revson, founder of Revlon Inc. who in his personal philanthropy, prized innovation, expanding knowledge, and supporting new generations of talent in areas of education, urban affairs, Jewish life and biomedical research. Revson’s biomedical research program has supported over 500 young scientists in the NY metropolitan area and in Israel.
“PDEP’s evidence-based track record of success in nurturing more diversity among the nation’s top scientists led Revson to collaborate with BWF in an unprecedented partnership to increase the number of PDEP awardees in the NY Metro area”, said Revson Foundation President Julie Sandorf. “By leveraging PDEP’s best practice methodology, expertise, and national networks, Revson will achieve far greater impact in broadening the pool of talented young scientists who are eager, willing, and able to make important contributions to biomedical science”.
“Collaborative funding models established through peer funder networks are key to the expansion and sustainability of proven diversity in science programming”, stated Alfred Mays, Burroughs Wellcome Fund’s Chief Diversity Officer and Strategist. “This partnership will serve as a model for the potential scale of the diversity enrichment network”.
Applications for PDEP will open in October, and interested scientists are encouraged to visit the respective websites of the Burroughs Wellcome Fund and the Charles H. Revson Foundation for detailed application guidelines and eligibility criteria.
