Atlantic Philanthropies' Mediratta Publishes New Book on Inequality in School Discipline
Kavitha Mediratta, Chief Strategy Advisor for Equality Initiatives and Human Capital Development at The Atlantic Philanthropies, announces her latest book, Inequality in School Discipline, that addresses the profound and life-altering consequences students face—especially young people of color—when schools enforce punitive disciplinary systems.
Along with collaborators Russell J. Skiba and M. Karega Rausch, she seeks to answer three questions:
• Why are some students subjected to harsher discipline than others?
• Why are suspensions, expulsions, and arrests so widely used?
• What should we do to change these patterns in schools?
Inequality in School Discipline provides the most up-to-date and authoritative information on what has been learned from research, data, and practical experience about disciplinary disparities, and the latest findings regarding disparity-reducing approaches.
The chapters in this book draw from and were commissioned by the Discipline Disparities Research-to-Practice Collaborative.
