Recent federal actions — including threats to deploy the National Guard and expand ICE activity in major U.S. cities — have raised urgent questions about the safety, stability, and rights of our fellow New Yorkers. In New York City, increased enforcement activity and rhetoric about a “war from within” suggest that the months ahead may bring new challenges for local organizations and residents alike.
We are bringing together Philanthropy New York members for a tabletop scenario planning meeting to better prepare for both individual and collective responses around possible federal enforcement actions.
*Due to the sensitive nature of this scenario planning exercise, we ask that members leave phones, tablets and laptops in your offices or outside of the room. We will have storage for devices and notepads available for your note taking needs*
Intended Outcomes
Participants will be able to:
• Learn From Other Cities: Hear from funders in other impacted cities about promising ways that they have addressed increased federal actions
• Know The Threats and Who’s Who on the Ground: Work with peers to understand the possible threats, and align your actions with leaders on the ground who are working directly with impacted communities
• Prepare for Individual and Collective Actions: Generate individual actions and collective agreements to keep staff, grantees, and the sector safe and in solidarity
• Scenario Plan: Build risk-mitigation scenarios to share with your stakeholders in the event of federal enforcement actions in our city
