Join us for an OVEE screening featuring clips and conversation from Chasing Ice, one of the five powerful films selected for our 2015 Media Impact Festival. (An OVEE screening consists of the screening of a film’s trailer, watching several clips, and live-chatting with the filmmakers’ team.)
The festival celebrates the social impact of media, and its capacity to transform society. Chasing Ice is one of the five films chosen for its notable impact on a particular issue through powerful coverage and inspired engagement of audiences, influencers, and institutions.
Through a partnership with OVEE, an online cinematic social visual experience created by ITVS, we will host a series of online screenings and live chats featuring the nominated films to highlight their impact.
Chasing Ice is the story of one man’s mission to change the tide of history by gathering undeniable evidence of our changing planet. In the spring of 2005, acclaimed environmental photographer James Balog headed to the Arctic on a tricky assignment for National Geographic: to capture images to help tell the story of the Earth’s changing climate. Even with a scientific background, Balog had been a skeptic about climate change. But that first trip north opened his eyes to the biggest story in human history and sparked a challenge within him that would put his career and his very well-being at risk.
We’ll screen the trailer, watch several clips, and conduct an interview with Balog — the subject of the film — and director Jeff Orlowski. The Chasing Ice team will be on-hand live chatting with us. We’ll discuss the film’s impact and how it shifted the political conversation around climate change.
We hope you’ll join us for this thought-provoking online event and participate in the live conversation!
