Grantees, funding partners, the public, and philanthropy professionals themselves all benefit when foundations make their work and their knowledge broadly accessible. However, it can be challenging to know where and how to begin with improving and enhancing your foundation’s transparency practices. One avenue for funder transparency is sharing program and grantee perception assessments. Although some foundation staff may fear becoming a target of criticism and second-guessing, many more are taking the risk and finding that, in fact, they are respected for doing so and it benefits their work and the sector. Join Sharon Alpert, Vice President of Programs and Strategic Initiatives at Surdna Foundation, Hope Lyons, Director of Program Management at the Rockefeller Brothers Fund, and Janet Camarena, Director of Glasspockets at Foundation Center for an open and honest conversation with GrantCraft Director Jen Bokoff on the advantages and challenges of their organization’s transparency work.
