State Authority Wants $1.5 Billion for Renewable Energy Boost
In a document released late Monday, the New York State Energy Research Development Authority recommended the decade-long boost for the renewable industry, which would go toward funding major renewable projects meant to increase the state’s production.
The proposal now heads to the state Public Service Commission, which has the ability to require a surcharge on New York utility bills to fund it.
“It’s the largest commitment New York state has made to renewable energy,” said Richard Kauffman, the state’s chair of energy and finance and chairman of NYSERDA’s board. “This is for large-scale renewable energy, so it means utility-scale projects that we’re talking about....”
