Philanthropy New York’s (PNY) actively collaborates with diverse stakeholders to shape public policies that empower its members and their grantees to build a stronger and more equitable New York. PNY firmly believes that through engagement in public policy and collaboration with the government, the philanthropic sector can maximize its impact and foster an environment that improves conditions for the region's foundations and nonprofits.
PNY’s public policy efforts are guided by the belief that local, state, and federal laws and policies should:
-
Promote a just and equitable society;
-
Strengthen and stand in allyship with nonprofits; and
-
Support a more collaborative, engaged and impactful philanthropic sector.
Philanthropy New York’s public policy efforts focus on three main areas of interest to the philanthropic sector. Through this work, PNY:
-
Supports a Thriving Nonprofit Sector: PNY advocates for policies and practices that create and sustain a robust nonprofit sector.
-
Champions Systemic Change: PNY champions public policies that address systemic issues and empower historically marginalized communities that PNY members seek to serve.
-
Encourages More Effective Philanthropy: PNY supports public policies that encourage and support philanthropic giving, enabling the philanthropic sector to contribute effectively towards a more equitable world.
PNY offers programs and convenings so members can exchange information about policy engagement and develop collaborative partnerships with policymakers designed to achieve common goals.
