Non-governmental organizations play vital roles in ensuring vibrant civil societies. In some countries, however, civic organizations lack the legal authority to operate or the regulatory environment to flourish. Foundation staff considering funding to improve civil society in other nations need to consider how to factor context into grantmaking, so your resources are invested in ways that help rather than hinder civic engagement. This could include issues such as strengthening human rights or ensuring diverse viewpoints are heard in policy making. Join us for a discussion of how to consider ideological and political context to inform your philanthropic engagement in societies around the world.
