As a philanthropist, Virginia Sloane presided over the Heckscher Foundation for Children for nearly 25 years, helping to give away tens of millions of dollars to organizations serving youngsters in New York. She was also the soul of her Larchmont neighborhood for decades and a serious, talented tap dancer well into her 80s.
