In this historic period of low unemployment, job seekers with multiple barriers—including those with disabilities—are at risk of being left behind. 65 percent of working-age people with disabilities in New York City are either unemployed or not in the labor force (compared with 26 percent for those without disabilities). 34 percent of working-age people with disabilities in New York City have incomes below the federal poverty level, more than twice the rate for those without disabilities (14 percent).
At this session, leading workforce development and disability inclusion organizations will come together to highlight promising partnerships that advance economic equality for New Yorkers with disabilities. The session will also include a panel of New Yorkers with disabilities and leaders from the business community.
