The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) report issued in October made clear that “Limiting global warming to 1.5°C would require rapid, far-reaching and unprecedented changes in all aspects of society.” What initiatives are in play nationally and in the states that respond to the dramatic change called for by the IPCC report? Some have argued for a carbon tax that could draw bipartisan support. Many pure market-driven solutions have been criticized by environmental justice and climate justice groups as fundamentally inequitable. What are the tradeoffs and are there other proposals that would bring rapid change with a social and economic justice frame? How can funders find the right areas of overlap?
