Helmsley Trust Awards $5.4 Million to Help Standardize Clinical Data
The Leona M. and Harry B. Helmsley Charitable Trust in New York City has announced a $5.4 million grant to the Clinical Data Interchange Standards Consortium (CDISC) in support of the Texas-based consortium's efforts to standardize clinical data and ease data sharing among research scientists.
The grant will enable CDISC to create data standards for type 1 diabetes and Crohn's disease research and build out its infrastructure, tools, and training programs for academic researchers. Benefitting both the T1D and CD communities, the new standards will enable research centers to share information seamlessly; improve the quality, usefulness, and consistency of their clinical data; and evaluate the effectiveness of emerging treatments. The grant also will enable CDISC to continue following consensus-based processes that consolidate and transform standards into real-world-data compatible standards and ensure optimal data quality, validity, and use.
