Atlantic Philanthropies Awards $18 Million to Expand Health Equity Fellows
The George Washington University Health Workforce Institute at the Milken Institute School of Public Health has announced an $18 million grant from Atlantic Philanthropies to expand and operate the Atlantic Fellows for Health Equity program through 2026.
Established in 2016 with an initial $6 million award from Atlantic, the program (formerly known as Leaders for Health Equity) works to expose and deepen the knowledge of early-mid-career health sector professionals in areas such as the social determinants of health, health disparities, and community organizing, with the goal of helping them become more effective in building healthier, more equitable communities. The first two cohorts of fellows each comprised fifteen health sector leaders from the United States and around the world, including professionals with expertise in law, economics, medicine, dentistry, nursing, community organizing, data science, and public health management. Starting in 2019, the program will support an expanded cohort of twenty fellows a year.
The support from Atlantic also will enable the institute to expand the work of the Beyond Flexner Alliance, an organization dedicated to advancing a strong social mission commitment in teaching and the service activities of health professions education institutions...
