Route Fifty Recognizes Bloomberg Philanthropies’ What Works Cities at Second Annual Navigator Awards
What Works Cities, a Bloomberg Philanthropies-funded program begun in April 2015, was named a 2017 Navigator Award recipient for demonstrable results in performance management, transparency, access to data and the adoption of best practices and data-driven decisionmaking strategies.
What Works Cities’ early goals involved using data to drive systemic changes across municipal government. That common set of standards for operations and data practices and strategies has evolved into the development of a What Works Cities Certification program, something any city with a population of at least 30,000 residents can pursue — essentially a stamp of approval for well-run municipal governments.
