New York Landlord Fined $500,000 in Tenant Harassment Probe
A New York City landlord will have to pay $500,000 and address a number of building violations as part of a settlement over alleged harassment of tenants, officials said Wednesday.
State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman announced the settlement with Icon Realty Management after a multiagency Tenant Harassment Prevention Task Force investigation into allegations of harassment at buildings owned by Icon. A lawyer for Icon said the company didn’t harass any of its tenants.
Tenants in several Icon buildings in the East Village, the Lower East Side, and Brooklyn complained that they had to live amid construction debris and dust and had their heat, hot water and cooking gas shut off, according to the attorney general’s office. . .
