Override of Undocumented-Immigrant Bill Falls Short In Westchester
Lawmakers came one vote short of overriding a veto of a bill that would’ve given protections to undocumented immigrants in Westchester County.
The county Board of Legislators voted 11-6 to overturn the veto on Monday, but a 12-vote supermajority is needed for an override.
There are 17 members of the Board of Legislators. All nine Democrats and Republicans David Gelfarb and Jim Maisano voted in favor of the override.
"While we are not surprised by tonight's outcome - it truly is disappointing for the people of Westchester County," Catherine Borgia, the board's Democratic majority leader, said. . .
