Cuomo Says Penn’s ‘Summer Of Hell’ Was Prevented
The “summer of hell” at Penn Station due to Amtrak’s track upgrades was averted due to planning and communication, Gov. Andrew Cuomo said Wednesday in a statement.
“We said this summer had the potential be the ‘summer of hell.’ It did. It was prevented by the preparation, communication, and execution of our mitigation plan and the LIRR saw its best on-time performance of the year during these months – standards of service they must uphold year-round,” Cuomo said.
“This was a potential crisis and it was averted due to government response. I want to thank the railroad, the MTA and the hard-working men and women who got it done and proved that when we have the right resources, management, and cooperation at every level, you can deliver for the people of New York.”
