Kathryn O'Neal-Dunham (she/her) is committed to reshaping the philanthropic sector's power and privilege to dismantle inequitable systems. As the CEO of Philanthropy New York, she leads a vibrant community of 280 philanthropic organizations and over 4,500 professionals. Philanthropy New York equips changemakers at every level with the knowledge, tools, and peer networks necessary to collectively transform the philanthropic ecosystem.
Under Kathryn's leadership at Philanthropy New York, the organization launched a five-year Strategic Framework that is restructuring the institution and its relationships to become an anti-racist organization. Under this new Strategic Direction, PNY has:
- Implemented innovative programming and enhanced member networks to accelerate transformative philanthropic practices;
- Expanded communications to support member learning and drive policy advancements;
- Grown its capacity to influence government actors and strengthened partnerships with city, state, and national nonprofit leaders;
- Ensured that organizational leadership, including staff, board and members, have the tools, policies and structures needed to advance equity in their roles.
Kathryn has written, spoken, and advised extensively on fostering equity-centered change in philanthropy.
Before joining Philanthropy New York, Kathryn held leadership roles at the Macquarie Group Foundation and the United Way of New York City. She began her career developing mentoring programs for teenage girls in New York City and managing fundraising and external affairs for a child welfare and youth development organization.
Kathryn holds a B.A. in Clinical Psychology from Tufts University and a Master’s in Public Administration and Health Policy from NYU’s Robert F. Wagner School of Public Service. She serves as a Trustee and member of the Executive Committee of the Children's Village in Dobbs Ferry, New York, and is a leader of the Vestry at the Church of the Epiphany in New York City.
