PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
Philanthropy New York's Foundation Administrators Network is a resource for those working in foundation administration.
The network meets quarterly to give participants an opportunity to connect with colleagues in person, discuss topics of interest in a confidential setting, and meet Philanthropy New York staffers who support the network. New members are welcome and encouraged to attend.
Agenda
The New HR Challenge: Managing Misclassification Risks in the Nonprofit Workplace (Consultants, Volunteers and Interns)
At the next Foundation Administrators Network, Amanda Fugazy will walk attendees through the new risks facing nonprofits by misclassifying employees – in particular, consultants, volunteers, and interns. Both the IRS and the Department of Labor are undertaking efforts to identify cases of misclassification in order to recoup unpaid taxes. With back wages, benefits, lawyers and accountant fees, penalties and staff time, the costs can be very high to an organization.
In an interactive format, the session will provide an overview of the law, some lessons learned, sample resources and guides, tips in handling an audit, and time for questions and sharing of your own situations.
Reminder: As always, creating a confidential space at network meetings is very important. Please do not share specific details from the meetings with individuals outside the network.
FEE: No fee.
