The new media ecology can be overwhelming, with a growing array of digital devices, a proliferation of massive open online courses (MOOCs), alternative credentialing offered with digital badges, and the ubiquity of apps and social networks.
Recent reports have noted that teens own an average of 3.7 tech devices; 77 percent of university presidents have stated that their institutions offer online courses; and 300,000 students studied with Stanford University professors through the Coursera MOOC. Meanwhile, minority youth are using smartphones and mobile technology to access the Web in significant numbers, but lack opportunities to create and share, rather than passively consume, digital content.
Discover how media and technology are transforming education today and our workforce tomorrow. Speakers will highlight emerging trends and discuss the implications for grantmaking programs in education, youth development, the arts and workforce development.
